Carroll Street Memories

The Carroll Street Bridge over the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, NY, is one of the last remaining sideways opening drawbridges left in the world. Pulled by cables on railroad tracks, the bridge slides onto the canal banks to allow boats to pass. The graffiti is long gone and new condominiums are being built all around it. This photo was taken in the mid-1990s.
