Gowanus Canal: Brooklyn's Superfund Site - South Brooklyn Internet Inc.

The End

A diver in an oil covered suit exits the Gowanus Canal after working on the flushing tunnel in 1999. To enter the putrid water, the divers were using suits that kept them from coming into contact with the contaminated liquid. Hoses brought air from above. Once out of the canal, they were washed down before removing any of their protective suits.
